The soccer coach at Forbush High School is very optimistic about the coming year because he has several players returning who were instrumental in last season's success.
Seth Davis, the coach, said, “We’ll have open field and things going on the first of August. The first week of tryouts is Aug. 2.”We have 13 to 15 returning players, and then we’ll have a few new faces show up,” he said, characterizing the returning group as a strong enhancement.
“The team finished second in the conference last year because of the forfeits. We had to forfeit eight games,” he said. “We did really well. We went to the third round of the playoffs and were number-one in the state. So they’re a pretty good team. We are in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference.”
It is a 2-A classification in Region 10. The conference includes teams like the Alleghany Trojans, the Ashe County Huskies, the East Wilkes Cardinals, the Elkin Buckin’ Elks, the North Wilkes Vikings, the Starmount Rams, the West Wilkes Blackhawks and the Wilkes Central Eagles.
Davis enjoys his technical job at the school which involves technology.
“I teach Cisco Systems networking classes here,” he said. “It’s computer classes. It’s a pretty good class. Then we teach Foundations of Computer Technology. We teach computer applications in this area too along with computer engineering.”
He attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and he is a Yadkin County native.
