Barbara Alice Craver Bracken Summers died Tuesday, July 20, 2010, after a long battle with leukemia. She was 62.

Alice was born to the late Jim and Mary Garner Craver of Courtney on June 5, 1948.

She attended local schools in Yadkin County and received her nursing training at Rowan Technical Community College. More than 30 years of her nursing career was spent at Davis Hospital in Statesville, where she died, surrounded by family and health care professionals who loved her.

An inveterate craftsperson and needlework artist, she loved to paint, crochet, sew, and embroider for others and to put away enough summer fruits to feed Iredell County through the winter. Her faith, courage, and patience never left her, even in the final days of her struggle with leukemia.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her first husband, Steve Bracken.

Alice is survived by her devoted husband Bill, of Statesville; her children, Angela Leonard of Wilmington, and John Bracken (Michele) of Mocksville;

five grandchildren; four siblings, Lynn Brown and husband Alan and Jimmy Craver and wife Wanda of Yadkinville, Gail Reavis and husband Andrew of Mocksville, and Jane Shlensky and husband Vladimir of Durham; and by her many nieces, nephews, friends, and colleagues.

Funeral services were held Friday, July 23, 2010, at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, North Wilkesboro, with Rev. Don Myers and Pastor Tony Bunton officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family of Alice Craver Bracken Summers.
