A native of Davie County, he was the son of the late Will and Minnie Melton.
He is survived by his wife, Nina Renegar Melton; a son, Danny R. Melton and wife Teresa of Hamptonville; a daughter, Dianne Foster and husband Bill; two sisters, Lucille M. Foster of Mocksville and Irlene Merritt of Statesville; five grandchildren, Manda Cartner, Rustin Harpe, Andy Melton, Brittany Melton and Cody Melton; two great-grandchildren, Karlyn Phipps and Easton Barneycastle.
The funeral service will be held Aug. 5, 2010, at Liberty Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gordon Hospice House, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
Reavis Funeral Home of Statesville is serving the Melton family.
