Yadkinville Police Department authorities are looking for a man in connection with an armed robbery at the Days Inn that took place in the early hours of Saturday, Oct. 2.

According to police, the robber, wielding a handgun and dressed in black, including a black mask, entered the business on Sharon Drive and threatened the night clerk. Video captured the man jumping over the counter, exposing red underwear.

Yadkinville police believe the robber is white male.

"The suspect was wearing all black clothing and gloves, and his shoes had thin red vertical stripes on the heel," said Assistant Chief of Police Patrick Long.

"A black hooded sweatshirt covered a hat with a red bill. As the robber jumped the desk, he exposed his red underwear," Long reported. "It appears that the robber may have injured his ankle as he jumped the front desk."

There is video of the event on the Yadkinville Police Department Facebook site. If you have any information about this event, call Yadkin County Crime stoppers at 336-679-2366.

Long commented on the recent robbery of a pharmacy in Boonville, a robbery in which the pharmacist fought back. Long said this is not the right method of action, and that residents should comply with a robber's instructions to the letter to avert violence.

"People want to fight back," he said. Police used the Nixle system after the incident, and word of the crime went out almost immediately after it was reported.

"We've been doing it for three years, and it's a big success," he said.

One reason a person should not fight back is the perp may be intoxicated or under the influence of crack which can make a suspect more aggressive and stronger.

"You don't know who you're fighting," Long said. "There's a reason why we wear a bulletproof vest. We're always bringing a gun to the scene. It always has the potential to be a deadly situation."
