Hosting their annual "Cure for Cancer" game with the Carson Cougars, the Starmount Rams decked themselves out in Pink uniforms on last Wednesday in honor for the fight against cancer.

The two teams duked it out on the court and fought back and forth the entire match.

The Cougars eventually won the game in four sets. The Cougars won the first 28-26 after the score jumped back and forth between the two squads. The Cougars opened up a little gap in the score when they also took the second set 25-18.

Despite being down two sets, the Rams weren't about to go quiet. They dominated the Cougars in the third set, jumping out to a 5-0 lead. Although they provided a small comeback attempt, the Cougars couldn't muster the extra energy needed to overcome the Rams. Starmount won the set 25-15.

The third set, however, would be the only Starmount win of the night.

The Cougars came back and won the fourth set after a vicious on-court duel between the squads. The score jumped back and forth between the two teams the entire set. Starmount took the occasional lead, but never more than a point or two.

The Cougars opened up a little bit of a lead towards the end of the set. They jumped up, towards the end, by as many as two points over the Rams as they honed in on the win. The Rams battled back, however, and nearly won the set which would have sent the game into a fifth and final set.

The Rams tied the game at 24-24, but couldn't finish the set. The Cougars put away the final two points and took the win in the last set 26-24 over the Rams.

Junior Amber Wooten provided an all-star game with 19 kills, one ace, and four digs. Ashton Gregory also had a strong game. Gregory provided 18 kills and 13 blocks, most of which came in the fourth set. Olivia Gough had four kills of her own, an ace, six digs and six blocks. Josie Matthews had one kill, and was 18-19 serving. She also had two aces and 13 digs. Brinsley Stewart had three kills, three aces, two digs and four blocks against the Cougars.

Freshman Erin Barr gave a solid performance with two kills, five aces, 36 assists and three digs. She was also 20-21 serving. Senior Ashley Wilkins added two aces and 10 digs for the Rams. She was also 13-13 serving.

Despite the loss, the Rams still maintain a perfect 10-0 conference record. The Rams will travel to Elkin on Tuesday for a conference match up.
