Mr. Joseph Thomas Newman, Jr., 62, of 3549 Lone Hickory Road in Hamptonville died June 22, 2012 at his home. Born September 27, 1949 in Iredell County he was a son of the late Joseph Thomas Newman, Sr. and Pearl Viola Ireland Newman. He was a disability retired security guard and a member of Houstonville Church. On June 6, 1981, he married the former Peggy Sue York who died on February 23, 2003. He was also preceded in death by two brothers.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Wooten and her husband, Brady of Hamptonville and Mrs. Polly Jester and her husband, Terry of Thurmond, N.C.
Graveside services were held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, July 1, 2012 at the Houstonville Church Cemetery.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the benefit of the family to assist with funeral expenses to Reavis Funeral Home Of Harmony, P.O. Box 85, Harmony, N.C. 28634.
