Now registering youth for free grief camp

MOUNT AIRY — Registration is now underway for Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care’s Brighter Days Children’s Grief Camp. The first Camp will be held on June 29 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sparta Lions Club Pavilion in Sparta. The second camp will be held on July 13 and July 14 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Dobson.

Brighter Day’s Grief Camp is a healing retreat for children ages 5 through 18 who have lost a loved one. A variety of educational and recreational activities will be offered, all of which are designed to assist the campers in identifying, expressing and coping with their feelings of grief.

“We utilize a blended therapeutic modality of trauma focused cognitive behavioral interventions, art therapy, mindfulness and grief education, to meet the special needs of our campers,” said Stacie Adams, Mountain Valley Hospice camp coordinator.

Grief Camp is free, but participants must register in advance. Deadline for registration is June 23 for the first session, and July 6 for the second session.

The Sparta Lions Club Pavilion is located at 490 Trojan Ave. First Baptist Church of Dobson is located at 204 Crutchfield St.
