Public input sought on Hanging Rock State Park

Staff Report

The state of North Carolina is seeking public comment on plans for the expansion of Hanging Rock State Park in Stokes County. The state recently acquired nearly 750 acres of land north of the state park and is developing a master plan that will direct future growth and development for the property.

Obs Landscape Architects, the design firm hired to develop the master plan, will host a public open house on June 29 at the Walnut Cove Public Library, 106 5th St., Walnut Cove. The event will be an open forum and the community is invited to stop in at their convenience between 4 and 7 p.m.

Multiple concepts and ideas for the property will be on display and the community will have an opportunity to provide valuable feedback to the design team. Members of the design team, park rangers and staff from the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources will be on hand to answer questions.

Following Thursday’s public meeting, the new maps and plans will be posted on the project website where the community will have an opportunity to provide additional feedback.
