DOBSON — Surry Community College’s Small Business Center will be holding free seminars and workshops in September at various locations in Surry and Yadkin counties.

Financing Your Small Business will be the subject of a seminar on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Center for Public Safety, 1220 State St., Mount Airy. This seminar will get to the heart of business financing by answering common questions including: “Who will give me money for my business idea and what do they need from me?” and “Will my business be able to make enough money to pay back a loan or attract an investor?” Explore the advantages and disadvantages of the different types of funding sources and how to choose the right source for your needs in order to attain financing success.

Fundraising with Your Board will be the topic of a seminar on Sept. 14 from 9 a.m. to noon at The Elkin Center, 1461 N. Bridge St., Elkin. Non-profit executives and board members need to understand the many potential roles they can play in development and fundraising. This three-hour seminar will discuss strategies to generate actions from your board members that will support and enhance fundraising and program efforts and will help participants identify key steps to moving a board forward and creating a culture of support for development efforts. Discover the pitfalls to avoid when asking for your board’s help and the steps to take to increase board participation in development work.
