New police chiefs for Boonville, East Bend

The towns of East Bend and Boonville have both named new police chiefs.

East Bend has named David Shore, a Yadkinville native, to serve as its new police chief. Former East Bend Police Chief Ronnie Bowers left the position unexpectedly in May.

Shore has served as a part-time officer for the town since 2015. He has been in law enforcement since 2008. Shore said it was an honor to be selected for the job.

“We are delighted to have Chief Shore serving in his new capacity,” said East Bend Mayor Archie Hicks. “He has done an excellent job for some time as a part-time officer for the town of East Bend and is very familiar with the town, the residents, and the operation of the police department. We believe this will be a seamless transition for all concerned.”

Boonville’s new police chief is Chuck Evitt. Evitt has 25 years experience in law enforcement. He is from Morganton and most recently served as the division commander over community policing at the Reidsville Police Department. He was responsible for supervising four school resource officers, a park ranger, two canine units, a downtown officer and part-time officers and code enforcement and parking officers.

Evitt has an associate’s degree from Western Piedmont Community College in criminal justice. He also has completed several leadership classes as well as a management development program.

“I’m looking forward to the opportunity to serve the citizens of Boonville and working with the employees for the town of Boonville,” Evitt said. “I’m looking forward to working with the community to continue the strong positive relationships that have already been built.”

On behalf of the town leadership, Boonville Town Administrator Sarah Harris said they were happy to welcome the new chief.

“He is committed to the philosophy of community policing and is looking forward to serving the citizens of Boonville,” Harris said. “Stop by the police station to meet and welcome Chief Evitt.”
