Three East Bend cruise nights planned

By Kitsey Burns Harrison -

A series of three cruise nights will be held in downtown East Bend on July 26, Aug. 30 and Sept. 27.

Local businesses owner Mark Hobson of Hobson Performance Cars brought the idea to the town board last month and said he would be willing to organize it if the board would give its approval.

Board members said they liked the plan and thought it would be a good event for the town. Hobson wasted no time in beginning to organize, and other local business owners quickly got on board to help sponsor the event.

“It’s amazing what it’s turning into,” Hobson said. “It’s just going to do something great for the community.”

Hobson said his initial idea was to be an event that would bring visitors to town and provide a boost for the local economy. It has grown to be much more, he said.

With three events now planned and multiple businesses on board to help fund the endeavor, Hobson said there will likely be money left over that will be donated to a local charity after the final cruise-in in September. Nonprofits and area churches are to be a part of the cruise-in as well as businesses. Booths will be available at no charge for nonprofit organizations and several churches also will be selling food at the events.

Business sponsors of the cruise-in will be represented at the events as well. Hobson said he welcomes any area businesses which would like to get on board to support the event. He also created a five-member association to help run the event.

The streets of downtown East Bend will be filled with all manner of classic cars and even newer cars, Hobson said. Anyone wanting to show off their wheels, even tractors or pulling lawnmowers, are welcome to attend, he said.

Local band Flat Blak Cadillac will perform at the July 26 event. Live entertainment is being planned for the August and September events as well.
