Yadkin County authorities release name of man killed in deputy-involved shooting

Staff Report

JONESVILLE — Authorities have released the name of a Jonesville man who was killed in an officer-involved shooting on Sept. 5. Christopher Keith Sage, age 45, was fatally shot after officers responded to a call on Laura Lynn Drive.

Chris Laws, SBI Special Agent in Charge of the Northwestern District, said deputies responded to the address following a 911 call reporting a possible domestic disturbance.

Yadkin County Sheriff Ricky Oliver said when the two deputies arrived, “an individual came out of the residence and confronted them with a weapon. Shots were fired and the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.”

“The State Bureau of Investigation was called in to conduct an officer-involved shooting investigation, which is normal protocol for this event,” Oliver continued. “The investigation is ongoing and the two deputies that were involved are on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of that investigation.”

Laws said that investigation is ongoing and they are still waiting on the final autopsy report. Laws said he couldn’t comment further on the case until that report was completed.
