Foothills Theatre is set to stage a readers’ theater production of “Three Viewings” at the Foothills Arts Council in Elkin on Sept. 28 and 29. The play, written by Jeffrey Hatcher, is billed as a dark comedy. A small midwestern funeral parlor is the setting for these three darkly funny and touching monologues.
The show features three veteran performers of Foothills Theatre — Judy Deck, Morgan Harrison and Kitsey Harrison.
Mike Cheek, who played the role of Shrek in this summer’s musical production, is directing the show.
“The three stories interweave to portray the deceased and the bereaved, and the lengths to which survivors go to hold on to memories, money and love,” Cheek said.
“‘Three Viewings’ was originally produced by Manhattan Theatre Club on March 14, 1995, and I was in a production back in the summer of 2010,” Cheek continued. “We learn from these three characters and feel their pain, loss, and laugh at their humor. This show reminds me that no matter what steps are taken in preparation of dying, the secrets live on.”
Performances are Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Foothills Arts Council, 129 Church St. Performances are free with a $10 suggested donation. Wine will be available at the show as well.
