Despite a delay on the scheduled date for the event, organizers said this year’s Yadkin Valley Harvest Festival was a success. The fall festival hosted by the Yadkin Arts Council was held on Saturday in downtown Yadkinville.

“For the first time in 42 years, the annual Yadkin Valley Harvest Festival had to be rescheduled due to weather,” said Yadkin Arts Council President John Willingham. “Hurricane Florence caused it to be delayed for two weeks. To our surprise, it turned out to be a great success. The crowd was as large as ever.”

Attendees enjoyed a variety of festival food favorites such as funnel cake.

A psychic reader, a man-eating plant and Elvis were just a few of the unique highlights of this year’s event.

While an Elvis impersonator performed at one end of the street, dancers and actors from the Yadkin Arts Council gave a small preview of their upcoming performance of “Little Shop of Horrors,” which is schedule for Oct. 11-14 in the Willingham Theater at the Yadkin Cultural Arts Center.

“Its hilarious premise and the spectacle of a giant, man-eating plant are perfect for Halloween, and the doo-wop era music is irresistibly catchy,” said Director Jessie Grant.

Members of the cast performed several numbers from the show right on the street for festival-goers to enjoy.

Clothing, crafts and tarot card readings were just a few of the booths represented at the festival this year. Several local organizations, including both the Yadkin County Democrat and Republican parties, Rotary Club and more, were represented at the event.

Law enforcement officers from the Yadkinville Police Department and Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office also were present. Police Chief Tim Parks said it was a busy morning with lots of guests stopping by the police department’s booth to say hello. They handed out free T-shirts to festival-goers as well.
