Yadkin County Sheriff’s deputy wrecks due to torrential rains, according to investigating trooper

Staff Report

JONESVILLE — A Yadkin County Sheriff’s deputy escaped a wreck in his patrol vehicle Wednesday with no injuries as he was responding to a call for assistance in the county.

Sergeant Todd Keller, who investigated the incident for the North Carolina Highway Patrol, said the accident, which occurred as storms rolled through the area Wednesday, resulted in minimal damage to the vehicle, but no personal injuries.

According to Keller, Barker was responding to a call at about 6 p.m. Wednesday. When approaching the merge at I-77 and U.S. 21, Barker was unable to judge the road side due to the rain and, in an effort to drive past another vehicle, went off the road and hit several small trees.

“He just over-corrected and lost control of the car,” stated Keller. “No one was hurt and there was minimal damage. It was just the heavy rains that caused it.”
