The body of a fisherman who fell overboard on Friday at Lake Hampton has been located. Yadkin County Emergency Services Director Keith Vestal said the body was recovered around 10:30 a.m. on Saturday morning.
Yadkin County Sheriff Ricky Oliver said the victim was 39-year old Jeffrey David Key of Yadkinville. Key was fishing alone in a small boat on the lake at the Yadkin Memorial Park on the morning of April 14 when witnesses said they heard yelling and noticed an unmanned boat.
The Sheriff’s Department, Yadkin EMS and West Yadkin Fire Department were called to the scene. The dive team from the Lewisville Fire Department was also called in to assist. Crews spent most of Friday searching the lake for the victim. Vestal said by late Friday evening the team believed they had located the body, but as darkness fell they were forced to call off the search. Crews returned to the lake early Saturday morning and with the aid of sonar equipment from Lee County, Key’s body was located and divers were able to retrieve his body.
NC Wildlife officials, the Mount Airy Rescue Squad and a team of cadaver dogs also assisted with the search.
