Yadkinville will celebrate Independence Day in style on Tuesday with its annual parade, followed by live music at Yadkinville Elementary School and a fireworks display.

This year’s grand marshal is Yadkinville native Lloyd Pardue. An army veteran and long-time educator, Pardue has always been an active member of the Yadkin County community. During his more than three decades of teaching, he received numerous awards and recognition including an Award of Merit nomination by the Historic Preservation Society of NC and he was twice given the honor of Yadkin County teacher of the year.

Pardue was well-known in his career for involving his students in hands-on historical projects in the county, including creating a scale model of the Richmond Hill Law School. He was also instrumental in preserving the cupola from the old Yadkinville School Bell Tower.

The parade will kick off at 5 p.m. with a procession down Main Street. Fire trucks, classic cars, floats and more are expected to be a part of the festivities.

The celebration will continue at 5:30 p.m. with a concert featuring Rain Jacket playing oldies music favorites at Yadkinville Elementary School. Food and snacks will be available for purchase from the Yadkin Civitan Club. Fireworks will begin at 9:30 p.m. The events are sponsored by the town of Yadkinville, the Yadkin Civitan Club and the Downtown Business Association of Yadkinville.

The parade is sponsored by the Yadkinville Fire Department. Parade participant line up will begin at 3 p.m. on Progress Lane. Those wishing to participate in the Independence Day Parade need to complete a parade participant application form and have it submitted to YVFD within two business days of the parade. Applications are available at Yadkinville Volunteer Fire Department (during regular business hours of Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.); Phone 336- 679-4800 or on the fire department tab of the Yadkinville website, www.yadkinville.org. All applications must either be hand delivered, faxed, or mailed to YVFD. Applications will not be accepted via email.
