Summer reading fun at local libraries

By Kitsey Burns Harrison -

School may be out for summer, but there are still plenty of educational opportunities for area children thanks to the summer reading programs hosted at the Yadkin County branches of the public library.

A number of fun and educational programs have already taken place, with more scheduled for the remainder of the month. This year’s theme is “Build a Better World.”

On July 19 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., the Yadkin County library in Yadkinville will host “Edzootainment,” a wildlife show featuring Jason Balder. Children will also get a sneak peek of the Yadkin Arts Council’s youth production of “Beauty and the Beast” at the Willingham Theatre, across the street from the library, at 10 a.m. on July 26.

The Boonville library will have a production of “Tricky Tricky Trickster Tales” presented by the Attic Salt Theater Company at 1:30 p.m. on July 18. Captain Jim the Pirate will visit the Boonville library at 1:30 p.m. on July 25.

The Attic Salt Theater Company also will visit the Jonesville library at 10 a.m. on July 18 and the East Bend library at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on July 26. A Mad Science program will be held at the East Bend library at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on July 19.

Shaunda York will present “Legos in Motion” at the Jonesville library on July 25 at 10 a.m.
