Fatal wreck still under investigation

LEWISVILLE — Authorities in Forsyth County are still investigating a wreck that occurred on July 12 that left one man dead and several others injured. Robert Long, a Yadkin County native, was killed in the accident.

N.C. Highway Patrolman D.L. Hamby said the wreck happened on northbound U.S. 421 when a recliner fell off a small trailer. A red pick-up truck, driven by Leonel Palacios, stopped in the lane to attempt to change lanes and avoid hitting the chair.

Long, in a white van, swerved to attempt to miss the truck but hit the rear portion of the vehicle and went on to strike an embankment. Jessica Houston, driving a green car, also struck the truck.

Hamby said Long was pronounced dead on the scene. Drivers and passengers in the other vehicles were transported to the hospital for treatment.

The driver whose recliner fell from the trailer was not on the scene when officers arrived. Hamby said the investigation is ongoing.

Long was the vice president of his family’s HVAC business, Lomar Enterprise, based in Yadkinville. A representative from the company said the family wanted the public to know that the business was still open and will continue to serve the community.
