YADKINVILLE —A Boonville man has been charged with attempted murder after officials say he stabbed his wife.

Bobby Justin Royal, 29, of Mabel Trail, Boonville, was arrested by Yadkinville Police after he allegedly stabbed his wife early Monday morning while she lay in bed with their 1-year-old son.

He has been charged with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, assault with a deadly weapon in the presence of a minor, first-degree burglary, and child abuse. Officers said additional charges expected.

Royal was in custody awaiting a bond hearing, which was scheduled for Monday, before a district court judge.

Royal’s estranged wife, who was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for emergency treatment of multiple life-threatening stab wounds, had been living with her mother.

The child was not in need of medical attention.

According to Yadkinville Police, Royal broke into his mother-in-law’s home on Chestnut Street shortly before the 2:24 a.m. 911 call.

Upon arriving at the Yadkinville residence, Royal reportedly entered the room where 32-year-old Michelle P. Royal and their son was sleeping, repeatedly stabbing Michelle, whose screams awoke her mother, according to officials.

Royal was arrested in his mother-in-law’s kitchen where he was found waiting for police.

The situation remains under investigation.
