BOONVILLE — The Starmount High School Concert Choir and Mixed Ensemble performed on March 7 at the North Carolina High School Choral Music Performance Adjudication (MPA).

The Concert Choir received “straight” Superior ratings from all three judges and an overall rating of Superior. The Mixed Ensemble received one Superior rating and two Excellent ratings for an overall rating of Excellent.

At MPA, the highest rating given is Superior and the next to highest rating is Excellent. This makes the third consecutive year the SHS Choral Department has participated in this event and the first time the Concert Choir, which is the advanced group at SHS, has received a Superior rating in this three year period.

The students are all very proud of themselves and eager to learn more. Upon their return to class the following day, the choir members were excited to hear their judges comments and reflect on their performance.

Kelsi Jester, their choral director, is very proud of her students and cannot wait to continue to build upon the foundation that has been laid. She hopes to continue with future Superiors. She expressed thanks for their gifted and kind-hearted accompanist Carmen Long, who played for them at MPA and who regularly accompanies the groups.
