MOORESVILLE — Sixteen weeks of classroom and hands-on training came together June 15 as students successfully completed Performance Instruction & Training’s (PIT) Pit Weld U Powered by Miller Welders welding program.
Among the graduates of the state licensed program was Boonville native Jacob Matthews.
Pit Weld U Powered by Miller Welders is a state-licensed welding course for individuals interested in a career as a fabricator/welder in the motorsports industry, or in many other fields where expert metal workers are needed. The students learned about welding safety, metal cutting processes and MIG and TIG welding disciplines while in the program. Their time was heavily focused on hands-on training that involved completing welding projects on a variety of different metals helping to become knowledgeable in real-world applications.
As a result, Matthews is prepared to become certified in MIG and TIG welding by the nationally renowned American Welding Society (AWS). His dedication within the Pit Weld U Powered by Miller Welders program and graduation is just the first step.
“The students have been working hard for sixteen weeks and their efforts in Pit Weld U have paid off, but their career is just beginning,” said Bill Evans, a Pit Weld U instructor and fabricator at Team Penske. “They’re now positioned to obtain high paying welding and fabricating jobs where they can continue to hone their skills and enjoy a great career.”
Pit Weld U Powered by Miller Welders courses are held twice weekly, with new classes beginning every eight weeks. Students may select from either Monday and Wednesday night or Tuesday and Thursday night sessions. Each class is limited to a maximum of 10 students to ensure hands-on training and one-on-one instruction time. More information about the program can be found at www.VisitPIT.com/pit-weld-u.
