The Forbush spring sports season has come to an end as the baseball and soccer teams fell in the playoffs. The baseball team made it to the third round before being beaten by Smoky Mountain, 7-1. The women’s soccer team made it to the fourth round of the playoffs before falling to Salisbury 1-0.
Smoky Mountain was able to take an early lead over Forbush in the second inning and the Mustangs never looked back. Smoky Mountain scored three runs in the second inning, three in the fourth and one in the sixth. Forbush was able to get one run across the plate in the sixth inning.
The Falcons accumulated four hits, while Smoky Mountain had eight. On the mound, Tall0n Flynn pitched five innings, allowed eight hits, seven runs, three walks and four strikeouts. Blake Winebarger pitched one inning and had one strikeout.
Forbush baseball ends its season with an overall record of 22-6 and a conference record of 11-1.
The Forbush soccer team put up a tough fight against Salisbury, but the home team was able to take a 1-0 win. Salisbury was the top-ranked team and holds an undefeated record of 24-0. The Falcons came into the game with a record of 23-3-1. Both teams battled through the opening minutes of the first half. The Hornets were able to break through in the 14th minute to score the only goal of the night.
The Falcons kept trying to find open shot, but the Hornets were able to hold steady on the back line to keep the score 1-0. As the final whistle blew, Salisbury took the win and ended Forbush’s 2018 season.
The Falcons ended its season with an overall record of 23-3-1 and a conference record of 12-0.
