BOONVILLE — As the 2018 regular season winds down, the Starmount soccer team has been playing for the top spot in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference. The Rams played two important games which helped determine their spot heading into the final weeks of play. On Tuesday night, the Rams hosted Wilkes Central for the top spot and on Wednesday afternoon the Rams hosted Elkin in another MVAC game.

Starmount 4 – Wilkes Central 3

The Tuesday night game was a battle for the top spot in the MVAC. Starmount came into the game with an undefeated MVAC record of 6-0, while the Eagles had a record of 5-1. Wilkes Central came out strong as soon as the opening whistle blew. The visiting team knocked in a goal to take a 1-0 lead early in the half. Starmount was able to tie the game with a goal by Jesus Alveraz, but several minutes later, Wilkes Central took the lead.
