RONDA — The Forbush Falcons baseball team traveled to Ronda on Thursday night to take on the East Wilkes Cardinals in a nonconference game. The Falcons came out swinging in the batter’s box to take a 12-3 win over the Cardinals.
Forbush was able to take an early lead over the Cardinals in the first inning. Carter Foster hit a sacrifice fly to right field, which brought Jacob Shore in to score. Two batters later, Peyton Winebarger stepped up to the plate and singled to left field to bring Wesley Wood in for another Forbush run.
In the field, the Falcons were able to make the Cardinals go three-up three-down. Shore was able to throw out the first batter, while Tallon Flynn put down two strikeouts in a row from the mound.
In the bottom of the second, the Falcons put down another three outs in a row. Alex Boyles was able to pick off a Cardinals runner as he threw the ball from his catching position to Winebarger at first base for the first out. The second out came as the third baseman, Tanner Gregory, was able to throw out the runner. Flynn was able to round out the inning by throwing a strikeout for the Falcons.
Back in the batter’s box, Forbush was able to put down another run in the third inning. The inning started off as Wood doubled to right field, and Winebarger was walked. Boyles was able to continue the inning as he singled to right field to load the bases. With runners in scoring position, Flynn was able to put down a single to second base, which brought Wood in for the fourth run of the night.
The Cardinals were able to bring in two runs in the bottom of the third inning for a 4-2 game. Although the Cardinals were able to put down two runs, the Falcons were able to take a bigger lead in the fourth inning. Foster doubled to left field to bring Shore in, then Winebarger singled to bring in Foster. The runs kept coming for the Falcons as Winebarger was brought in after a walk by Landreth Cockerham. Flynn brought in two more runs for Forbush as he singled to center field to bring Gregory and Derek Jayson across the plate. At the end of the fourth inning, the Falcons had a 9-2 lead over the Cardinals.
East Wilkes knocked in another run in the bottom of the fourth inning, as it would be the last run the Cardinals would score.
In the fifth inning, the Falcons put down three runs off of a huge hit. With runners on first and second base, Winebarger stepped up to the plate. On a 3-1 count, Winebarger sent the ball flying over the center field fence for a three-run home run.
As the game went on, both teams had runners in scoring position but neither team was able to score. When the final inning was over, Forbush took a 12-3 win over the Cardinals.
With the win, the Falcons move to 9-2 overall.
