Starmount’s Chris Fillingame finished tied for seventh in the NCHSAA golf state championship.

WEST END — The North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s 1A golf state championship took place at Foxfire Golf Club and Resort in West End. Starmount, Elkin and East Wilkes all had golfers take part in the state championship.

Starmount’s Chris Fillingame finished tied for seventh after an impressive two rounds. In the first round, Fillingame scored 79 and in the second round, he scored 81. After the two rounds, he finished with a score of 160, which gave him a tie for seventh place with East Surry’s Landon Barnes.

Noah Hill from Elkin also competed in the state championship. Hill finished 20th with scored of 86 and 85 for a total of 171. East Wilkes’ Jais Norman finished tied for 43rd with scores of 97 and 84 for a total of 181.
