BOONVILLE — The Starmount Lady Rams defeated the Lady Trojans of Alleghany on Tuesday night in Mountain Valley 1A/2A play by a score of 11-0 in a game that ended at the half due to the mercy rule. The Lady Rams had six different players score their first goals of the season and five starters tally goals.
“I think the team had something to prove to me tonight, but we still have a long ways to go and improve,” said head coach Dale Draughn of his team’s performance Tuesday against the Trojans. “I never try to run the score up because we have been on the other side of the scoreboard this season and in the past with our share of mercy rule wins and losses.”
Claire Maske had two goals for the Rams, Izzy Najera had two assists and a goal, while Courtney Byrd also had two assists.
“We played about 20 minutes with our starters and I started to sub at will and the ladies who have not seen much playing time saw extended minutes tonight,” said Draughn.
The win improves the Lady Rams’ overall record to 4-2-1 and their conference record to 2-1. The Lady Rams will face a tougher test on Friday as they travel to Wilkes Central for a conference match up.
“We have two days to prepare and get ready for Wilkes Central who will be coming off a loss to Elkin,” said Draughn.
