BOONVILLE — In a back and forth affair between Starmount Rams and the Elkin Lady Elks, one team was able to prevail to earn a conference victory on Tuesday night. The Lady Rams overcame the Elks to take a 10-6 win.

Starmount started things off on the right foot in the bottom of the first inning. Kayla Vanhoy came up with a single off of an error by Chloe Osbourne at second base. Vanhoy would steal second and third before being brought across home plate. Shea Triplett hit a sacrifice fly to left center field which saw Vanhoy score. The Rams would take a 1-0 lead at the end of the first inning.

In the top of the second, Elkin found its groove as Mackenzie Tilley, Lane and Gracie Luffman all scored for the Elks. Lane and Luffman scored off of a line drive hit by Reagan Parks. Parks’ hit bounced off the top of Vanhoy’s glove which gave the Elks an opportunity to take a 3-1 lead.

In bottom of the second and the top of the third innings, both teams were able to play defense to keep the score 3-1 in Elkin’s favor. As the bottom of the third inning rolled around, Starmount bounced back to tie the game at 3-3 then take a one-run lead. Triplett once again found a hit for the Rams as her line drive to the outfield scored two Starmount runs.

The game would continue t0 seesaw as Elkin tied the game in the top of the fifth. In the bottom of the inning, Starmount would score six runs to put the game out of Elkin’s reach. Kennedy White cleared the bases as she hit a hard fly ball into left field to earn a triple. White’s hit gave Starmount an 8-4 lead, but the Rams were not through scoring as Ashley Johnson hit a triple of her own to score two additional runs for the Rams.

With a 10-4 lead, Elkin tried to battle back as they scored two runs in the top of the seventh, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Rams. After seven innings, Starmount took a 10-6 conference win over the Lady Elks.
