EAST BEND — The Forbush Falcons softball team earned a vital Western Piedmont Athletic Conference win on Tuesday night. The Falcons hosted their WPAC rivals, North Surry, on a chilly night in East Bend. Forbush was able to make the most of their time in the batter’s box to take a 7-3 win over the Greyhounds.
Things started early for Forbush, as the Falcons scored two runs in the first inning. Caiti Mickles singled to left field which brought Kayleigh Williams across the plate for the Falcons. Three pitches later, Sommer Gray was able to steal home to add another run for Forbush.
Forbush was able to continue its good fortune on the defensive side, as the Greyhounds went three-up three-down. The bottom of the second inning saw the Falcons add another run to take a 3-0 lead. Gray hit a ground ball for a single which brought Lakyn Baity across the plate.
For three innings, things settled down for both teams as no runs were scored. Forbush was able to break its scoring drought in the bottom of the fifth inning. Mickles singled to left field and brought Macey Rycroft in for a 4-0 Forbush lead. Two batters later, Davis Ann Wood hit a fly ball to the shortstop which saw Haley Morgan score. The Falcon kept hitting the ball as Williams doubled on a line drive to left field to bring Nevaeh Hemric and Wood across the plate. After five innings, the Falcons had a 7-0 lead over the Greyhounds.
As the game was winding down, North Surry was able to score three runs in the top of the seventh inning. The Falcons were able to hang on and get three outs to take a 7-3 win over the Greyhounds.
