EAST BEND — The Forbush Falcons softball team continued its successful 2018 Western Piedmont Athletic Conference run with a win over Atkins last week. In the fifth inning, Nevaeh Hemric hit a two-run walk-off home run to give the Falcons a 10-0 win.
Forbush was able to capitalize on its hits early, as Kayleigh Williams scored the first run of the night. Williams was brought in off of a hit by Sommer Gray. In the second inning the Falcons kept up its success in the batter’s box. Davis Ann Wood hit a triple to left field to bring Lakin Holcomb across the plate. Wood was brought in on the next hit by Hemric which gave the Falcons a 3-0 lead over Atkins.
In the field the Falcons were able to rack up on the outs. With plays from the outfield all the way to the catcher, the Falcons put up a strong defensive front. Caiti Mickles had five strikeouts for the Falcons from the mound.
In the third inning, Forbush put up another run for a 4-0 lead. The fourth inning saw the Falcons turn up the heat as they scored four runs. Mickles brought two runs in as she doubled to left field. After Mickles’ hit, Macy Rycroft put down a double to left field to bring in another two runs for the Falcons.
Heading into the fifth inning, Forbush needed two runs to put the 10-run rule into effect. With one out on the board and one runner on base, Hemric stepped up to the plate for the Falcons. On a 0-1 count, Hemric sent the ball over the center field fence to bring in the final two runs of the night. The run rule was put into effect and Forbush was able to take a 10-0 conference win over Atkins.
With the win, Forbush moves to 10-3 overall and 6-0 in the WPAC.
