Starmount High School is hosting a well-known musical by the name of “Oklahoma!” This popular musical is produced by schools from all across the nation each year.
“Oklahoma!” is an original Broadway production, written by composer Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. This award winning Broadway musical has always been an obvious choice for schools and popular community productions. The original production opened on March 31, 1943. It was a huge hit and got an unexpected 2,212 performances, later enjoying the national tours, award-winning revivals, foreign productions and the like. There has even been an Academy Award-winning 1955 film adaptation.
Starmount students Sandra Hammesfahr and Gavin Adams were announced as the Oklahoma! leads, with Hammesfahr stating, “I feel that all schools should have a theater program that produces more plays, such as Oklahoma! because, it gives students that are highly interested a happy place to go after school no matter how bad their day was. Play productions always knows how to brighten our days.”
Adams responded concerning his participation, “I really thought the school play would be fun, and our choral director told me that my personality and voice would be great for the lead ‘Curly’, so I decided to give it a shot with my sister Jenna because she was really interested in getting a part in Oklahoma! as well.”
Overall, there are at least 50 Starmount High School students participating in this musical and are eager for the show’s production nights. The show dates are April 7, 8 and 9, with more information on time of performance and ticket price to follow soon on school announcements. The cast also mentioned that they would all love to see everyone there in order to brighten the theater-goers’ day, too!
