The men’s tennis team at Forbush has been nothing but successful so far this season. The team was 10-5 in the regular season. The team as a whole came in third overall in the Western Piedmont Athletic Conference.
Junior Lance Kennedy and sophomore Matthew Wilhelm were named All-Conference. The whole team made it to the state playoffs where they lost first round.
Kennedy and Wilhelm won their conference tournament playing together in doubles. During the conference tournament, Kennedy and Wilhelm won 36 games and lost only five. They were scheduled to compete at Regionals on May 5. If they placed top four in their region, they advance to the state playoffs.
“I thought Matt and Lance both had a great tournament. I felt going in the tournament that they were the favorites to win it,” said Coach Matthew Tuck. “Between them both, they made a great team and they really showed it during the tournament. The two worked really well together.”
Kennedy said, “I think that Matt and I both have a great chance at making it to States.”
“I’m honestly a little nervous about Regionals because if we lose we are both done and I really want to go to States,” Wilhelm said. “I’m excited to face the challenges we will face at Regionals. Hopefully we will make it to States.”
Both Kennedy and Wilhelm played on May 5 where they played the first and second round of the Regional tournament. On May 6, they played the semifinals and finals where they came second in the Regional Tournament and will proceed to States on May 12 and 13.
